After studying Engineering at Clarkson College and Art at SUNY Potsdam, Robert Gillespie earned his Master of Arts Degree from S.U.N.Y Oswego in 1975. He has been a career art instructor and fine arts painter artist in the Finger Lakes area of New York State since 1972.
Robert’s first trip to the Watkins Glen grand prix circuit when he was 11 years old instilled an enthusiasm for auto racing which can be felt in his art. His paintings and murals of Watkins Glen racing history capture the details of the racing cars, the action, and colorful setting of each event. Working with historian Bill Green, Robert has currently produced over 100 paintings depicting American auto racing history. His work has appeared on book covers, magazines, and is included in many public and private collections around the world.
