Jeffords and the Watkins Glen flagman Tex Hopkins are frozen in time at the finish line as the Purple People Eater wins the annual Glen Trophy race. In its own way, the purple Corvette, named after a popular song of the day, captures the character of the American people in the late Fifties. Several popular Corvettes are shown parked in the background.
Harley Earl’s inspiration for the Corvette came at Watkins Glen. His famous Buick Le Sabre concept car, precursor to the ‘Vette, can be seen sketched in the clouds.
